Major Arcana · IX
The Hermit
Step away from the crowd to find your own light.
The imagery
A cloaked elder stands alone on a snowy peak, holding a lantern in which a six-pointed star shines, and leaning on a long staff. The figure looks down toward those still climbing. The lantern is hard-won inner wisdom, offered quietly to anyone who seeks it, and the summit is the clarity found through solitude.
Upright
introspection · solitude · wisdom · guidance · inner light
It is time to turn inward. The Hermit invites you to step back from external noise and spend real time with your own thoughts, questions and quiet. This is not loneliness but deliberate retreat, the kind that lets you hear what you actually believe. What you discover in this solitude will become a light for you and, eventually, for others.
Reversed
isolation · loneliness · withdrawal · avoidance
Healthy solitude may have slipped into isolation, or you are avoiding people because it feels safer than being seen. Alternatively, you may be resisting the quiet time you truly need, filling every hour to avoid your own company. Notice which way the pendulum has swung. Reach out, or retreat, whichever brings you back into balance.
In love
You may need space to understand what you truly want before you can share it. Taking time for yourself is not a rejection of anyone; it makes deeper connection possible.
In work
Deep, focused work and independent study are favored over networking right now. You may be seeking more meaningful work, so let that question breathe.
Advice
Schedule an hour alone with no phone and no agenda. Bring a notebook and see what comes.
