Death

An ending clears the ground for who you are becoming.

The imagery

A skeleton in black armor rides a white horse, carrying a black flag emblazoned with a white rose. Before it, figures from every walk of life, a king, a child, a bishop, respond in different ways, and in the distance a sun rises between two towers. Death comes to everyone equally, and the rising sun promises that renewal always follows.

Upright

endings · transformation · release · transition · renewal

This card is almost never about literal death; it speaks of transformation. A chapter of your life is closing, and as tender as that may be, it is making room for something that fits who you are becoming. Let yourself grieve what is ending, honestly and without rushing. Then notice the space that opens, because new life always grows in cleared ground.

Reversed

resistance to change · stagnation · fear of endings · lingering

You may be holding on to something that has already ended: a role, a relationship, an identity or a habit. Resistance keeps you in a painful in-between. Change is coming whether you welcome it or not, and you have more choice in how it unfolds when you stop clutching. Ask gently what you are afraid will happen if you let go.

In love

An old dynamic is ending so a truer one can begin, whether within a relationship or as you move on from one. Release the past version to make room for what is real now.

In work

A job, project or way of working may be coming to a natural close. Treat it as a shedding of skin rather than a failure.

Advice

Name one thing you are ready to release, and do something small and symbolic to mark its ending.
