The Hanged Man

Turn the world upside down to see it truly.

The imagery

A figure hangs upside down by one foot from a living T-shaped tree, the other leg bent into a figure four, hands tucked behind the back. Their face is serene and a golden halo glows around their head. This is willing suspension: by giving up the usual view, they gain illumination.

Upright

surrender · pause · new perspective · letting go · patience

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is stop pushing. The Hanged Man invites you to pause, surrender your need to force an outcome and look at the situation from an entirely different angle. What feels like being stuck may actually be an incubation. Insight tends to arrive the moment you let go of how you thought it would come.

Reversed

stalling · resistance · indecision · martyrdom

You may be stuck in limbo, delaying a decision because none of the options feel perfect, or sacrificing yourself in ways that do not actually help anyone. Waiting can become a habit. Ask what you are holding on to and what it would cost to release it. Sometimes the shift you need is simply to choose.

In love

A relationship may be in a waiting phase. Use the pause to see your partner, or your own patterns, with fresh eyes rather than rushing a resolution.

In work

Progress may be slower than you want, but this is the time to rethink your approach. A creative reframe could change everything.

Advice

Try looking at your problem as if you were someone you deeply respect. What would they see that you are missing?
